- distributed antenna system, DAS, Javits Center
Attendees at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center can now expect stronger and more reliable cellular service thanks to a recent upgrade of the venue's 5G Distributed Antenna System (DAS). According to
American Tower Corporation, their project enhanced cellular coverage throughout the convention center, adding support for multiple mobile carriers and spectrum bands to meet the growing connectivity demands of large scale events.
A DAS works by strategically placing a network of smaller antennas throughout a structure. These antennas improve coverage and capacity in areas where large numbers of users gather. Instead of relying on a single outdoor cell tower’s signal to penetrate walls and crowded indoor spaces, the DAS brings the signal closer to users. This network architecture strengthens cellular signal, while increasing the number of users and the amount of wireless traffic the network can handle.
The benefits become especially apparent during major conventions, trade shows, and expos where faster speeds and a more consistent mobile experience is expected by attendees and event organizers alike. With these latest enhancements, the venue is better equipped to support these demands.
